Position Summary:  The Actuarial Manager is responsible for coordination and enhancement of several key pricing functions for commercial auto liability pricing, including but not limited to profitability study, predictive modeling, rate monitoring, planning, pricing tools, and data strategy.   To be successful, you must be able to work as a team member not only within the actuarial department but also develop relationships and frequently work with other departments.  You must demonstrate superior knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, SQL and R or Python for statistical learning. In addition, you must be detailed-oriented, prioritize, and timely complete all tasks and comply with department policies and procedures.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Performs or oversees actuarial analyses and manages the process by which they are completed.
  • Communicates results/indications/proposals to senior company management.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact corporate and department goals and objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the company and department.
  • Supervises and develops a team of 2 to 3 actuaries and actuarial analysts.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Computer Science.
  • Fellowship accreditation (FCAS) is strongly preferred, ACAS will be considered.
  • 7+ years of experience within the P&C insurance space
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous managerial experience is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial auto insurance products is a plus

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong drive and commitment to the role.
  • Proficiency with R or Python is required.
  • Solid understanding of actuarial mathematics concepts, such as limited expected value and survival probability of various severity distributions
  • Proficiency with SQL or other data manipulation tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be detailed-oriented.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of company-sensitive data.

 

In New York City, NY the pay range for the role is $150,000 - 250,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.  In addition, Hudson/Odyssey offers a comprehensive benefits package. This range is specific to New York City, NY and may not be applicable to other locations.
