Position Summary: The Senior Actuarial Director is responsible for developing and managing relationships with key stakeholders, managing and directing the activities of the pricing actuarial team, and optimizing processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness. This role primarily touches Hudson’s Property, General Liability, and Construction lines of business and will have regular exposure to key stakeholders.

Essential Duties:

  • Leverage expertise in technical and process aspects of actuarial pricing and market knowledge to serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations with associated confidence levels on profitability studies and reinsurance studies. 
  • Build data-driven, innovative rating plans, rate filings and underwriting tools.  Conduct deep dives to identify drivers of profitability.
  • Optimize processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness on routine actuarial reports like rate monitoring, quarterly reviews and cat management reports.

  • Build strong relationships with direct reports, peers, business partners and leaders across multiple functions in order to ensure optimal implementation of business strategies aligned with actuarial insights and analytics.

  • Recruitment, development, and training as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, or a related field is required
  • Fellowship accreditation (FCAS) is strongly preferred, ACAS will be considered
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience within the P&C insurance space, with a comprehensive understanding of Property and General Liability insurance products is required. Specialty lines, Construction GL, and Surety experience is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of previous experience leading actuarial pricing strategies for one or multiple products, with the ability to manage complex projects and delegate work to senior and junior colleagues, is required.
  • Proficient experience with R and/or SQL is a plus.
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems, taking appropriate levels of risk and leading through change.
  • Willingness to get involved at all levels/across all aspects of processes as necessary.

 

In New York City, NY the pay range for the role is 200,000-300,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.  In addition, Hudson/Odyssey offers a comprehensive benefits package. This range is specific to New York City, NY and may not be applicable to other locations.
