Position Summary: The Underwriting Assistant in our Subcontractor Default unit is responsible for handling the administration of our SDI policies, endorsements, invoices, and extensive reporting. In addition to policy processing, this position will provide support and assistance to underwriting, clients, claims, risk engineering, management, and finance. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment to accomplish both personal goals and those of the department.

 

Responsibilities:
•    Issues binders, policies, endorsements, and invoices at instruction from UW.
•    Independently identifies and requests additional information required to complete tasks. 
•    Maintain data spreadsheets for entire team’s purpose. Including managing multiple reports and performing analysis for underwriters and management.
•    Assists with special projects and other tasks to achieve the goals and objectives of the company and department. 
•    Acts as liaison between brokers and accounting as needed. 
•    Assists in training other team members.
•    Maintain necessary processing manuals and/or other reference materials in order to appropriately and independently process assigned work. 
•    Works under minimal supervision maintaining a book (15-20 accounts) of business independently with little direction on required tasks to be completed by due date.

 

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 
•    Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Teams, and Outlook. 
•    Strong analytical skills. 
•    Must be familiar with standard insurance concepts, practices, and procedures. 
•    Ability to professionally communicate effectively at all levels within the company, as well as outside with brokers and insureds.
•    Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data. 
•    Excellent time management skills in order to organize and prioritize work commitments along with strong attention to detail.

 

 

Education/ Experience: 
•    Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. 
•    2-5 years of insurance experience preferred. 
 

 

In New York City, NY the pay range for the role is $60,000 - $90,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.  In addition, Hudson/Odyssey offers a comprehensive benefits package. This range is specific to New York City, NY and may not be applicable to other locations.
