Position Summary: Legal and Compliance Counsel will be situated in the Indianapolis, Indiana office. The business mix is diverse, and this is a hybrid role that will support the insurance divisions.
Essential Duties:
Product Development: This role will predominately support the development of the Company’s new insurance products and programs along with maintenance and compliance adherence of current programs, including:
- Program Contracts
- Policy form review and development
- State insurance filings
- Product implementation
- Program audits
Regulatory: Advise upon; and implement or revise procedures and protocols to achieve compliance within areas of insurance regulation such as:
- Privacy
- Insurance Department Complaints
- Cancellation and Nonrenewal
- Risk Retention Act
- Managing General Agents
- Financial and Market Conduct Exams
Contracts:
- Draft, review, advise upon, and/or negotiate various contracts and insurance-related agreements
Counsel:
- Provide counsel to business clients including but not limited to: Underwriting Managers, Third Party Administrators, Producer Relations, and Various Lines of Business
Education and Experience:
- BA Degree required
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from ABA-accredited institution and member in good standing of at least one state bar
- 4-6 years of in-house legal experience, preferably in the property and casualty insurance industry
- Working knowledge of insurance contracts and regulatory requirements is required.
- Superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-starter shows initiative, able to work autonomously without direction.
- Possess a strong ethical compass.
- Demonstrate a practical, business-minded approach when handling or advising on legal matters.
- Understand the business implications of decisions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and the flexibility to adapt to and lead through change.
