Position Description: The Ceded Reinsurance Specialist is responsible for supporting the ceded reinsurance goals of Hudson which includes working with reinsurance brokers and markets, the various underwriting units, as well as business units (accounting, claims, actuarial, etc.) within Hudson. They will also take the lead placement role on certain renewals, under the supervision of the Head of Ceded Re.
Essential Duties:
- Builds reinsurance submissions including gathering data and putting together profiles, narratives, etc.
- Prepares and reviews premium, loss data, triangles, and experience exhibits for release to reinsurance market in the renewal submissions.
- Gathers premium, loss information and exposure data on multiple lines of business.
- Communicates with reinsurance brokers and underwriting departments.
- Assembles additional information for reinsurer requests as appropriate.
- Reviews treaty structures with Actuarial and Hudson Executive.
- Reviews treaty wordings and works with Legal for approval to release externally.
- Works with Accounting/Finance to ensure premium and loss information is captured in order to process reinsurance.
- Develops working knowledge of internal data systems.
- Reviews existing processes and procedures and makes recommendations to enhance efficiencies.
- Facilitate annual audits – both underwriting and claims, setting up access to auditors, trouble-shooting IT issues and arranging / participating in wrap up meetings.
- Attend conferences and offsite reinsurance meetings / audits, where appropriate.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of insurance/reinsurance terminology.
- Strong interest in expanding understanding of primary insurance and reinsurance knowledge.
- Knowledge of excess of loss reinsurance contracts, facultative certificates and general understanding of reinsurance treaty wording required.
- Strong analytical and decision making skills.
- Ability to effectively and independently manage workload while exhibiting sound judgment.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners. Must be comfortable interacting on phone as well as in person with reinsurance brokers and markets.
- Proficient in computer programs used for completing the duties described above, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. (Excellent Excel skills including the ability to create pivot tables required.)
- Team oriented.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
- Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment.
- Located in New York.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree / higher education qualification preferred.
- 7 – 10 years of reinsurance experience.
In New York City, NY the pay range for this role is $150,000 - 165,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This range is specific to New York City, NY and may not be applicable to other locations.
