The Head of Risk Management a strategic leader responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating operational, financial, and reputational risks to ensure organizational resilience. This role drives risk strategy for private ag products and leads actuarial, finance, and analytics teams.

Core Responsibilities:

Agricultural Risk Strategy & Product Analytics

  • Lead risk strategy for private ag products (crop, livestock, specialty).
  • Analyze yield, weather, price, and loss data to guide pricing and underwriting.
  • Oversee portfolio risk.
  • Evaluate product performance using loss ratios, volatility, and risk‑adjusted returns.

Actuarial & Advanced Analytics Leadership

  • Direct actuarial pricing, reserving, and experience studies.
  • Oversee development and validation of actuarial, catastrophe, and predictive models.
  • Ensure assumptions reflect agronomic, climate, and market realities.

Finance & Profitability Management

  • Partner with Finance on forecasting, budgeting, reserving, and capital planning.
  • Support financial strategy through scenarios, stress tests, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Provide insights into product profitability, reinsurance, and risk transfer.

Data Strategy, Governance & Infrastructure

  • Lead enterprise ag data strategy (yield, weather, imagery, price indices, losses).
  • Establish data governance, validation, and documentation standards.
  • Ensure regulatory, audit, and reporting compliance.
  • Promote scalable data platforms, automation, and advanced reporting.

Cross‑Functional & Regulatory Collaboration

  • Serve as technical advisor to Product, Underwriting, Claims, Compliance, and Executives.
  • Translate complex findings into actionable business insights.
  • Support regulatory reviews, audits, and internal governance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in actuarial science, finance, business, mathematics, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in insurance, actuarial science, finance, or risk/analytics roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and collaborating with senior stakeholders.

 

Technical Skills

  • Crop yield and loss modeling.
  • High proficiency in risk assessment methodologies, data analysis, and forecasting.
  • Actuarial pricing and reserving
  • GLMs, machine learning, predictive modeling
  • Financial and portfolio risk analysis
  • Data governance and quality management
  • Executive‑level reporting and communication
