Position Summary:  The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for issuing all bind and endorsements requests for all Commercial Auto products. They are responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and implementing guidelines for commercial lines of business for all states while working exclusively with agents and wholesale brokerages.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Assists underwriters with all new and renewal business.
  • Responsible for maintaining underwriting endorsement inbox.
  • Issues policies and endorsements on instruction from underwriters.
  • Set up and maintain policy files, follow up for outstanding subjectivities and process mid-term policy changes.
  • Independently identifies and requests additional information required to complete assigned work.
  • Maintain professional communication with underwriters, as well as outside production sources, agents and brokers.
  • Assists with special projects and other assignments as requested.
  • Assist accounting and agents with billing inquires.
  • Performs other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the company and department.
  • Maintain necessary processing manuals and/or other reference materials in order to appropriately process assigned work.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the company.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Experience with policy wording and endorsement issuances.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to maintain process manuals and/or other reference materials in order to process assigned work
  • Excellent time management skills in order to organize and prioritize daily work commitments
  • Organizational skills with a strong attention to detail

 

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma required.  Bachelor’s degree a plus.
