Position: Business Systems Analyst
Report To: Director, Financial Systems and Data Transformation
Position Summary
The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of certain financial systems and tools, including the general ledger and budget systems. The Sr. Business Systems Analyst completes various assigned projects relating to improving the finance units’ processes and gaining efficiencies through automation and providing the necessary systems support for end-users within the finance units of Odyssey.
Essential Duties
- Assist in the overall maintenance of the general ledger system, including setting up accounts, companies and maintaining other dimensions within the system (SAP configuration and maintenance).
- Provide support and install periodic updates for Corporate Accounting’s annual statement software package (Wings).
- Develop enhancements within the general ledger system and budgeting systems, which may require configuration changes (e.g. set-up new companies, accounts, profit and cost centers, transaction codes, new users, etc).
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of existing financial reports.
- Develop robotic scripts to execute routine tasks.
- Assist end users in troubleshooting system usage issues. Must be able to independently research / troubleshoot / resolve financial reporting and system related issues.
- Assist in the execution of various internal control procedures over financial reporting.
- Assist in ensuring data transfer between various accounting systems is complete and accurate.
- Assist in technical balancing validation process to aid in a more seamless data transfer to the parent company.
- Liaise with all groups across both IT and Accounting to assist in strategic planning initiatives and system updates .
- Perform global FX translation and revaluation process and maintain the FX back-end reference database.
- Perform annual balance and equity carryforward processes.
- Maintain and ensure automation of IFRS-17 controls are complete.
- Assist in ad hoc team and company projects.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Basic SQL and VBA (macro) knowledge
- Strong PC skills, especially MS Excel and MS Access
- Experience with ledger-based reporting/consolidation systems (e.g. SAP and Wings statutory reporting software preferred)
- Working knowledge of accounting concepts and basic accounting skills preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks
- Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask
- Detail oriented and strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
- Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data
- Keep supervisor informed of activities and situations, which will impact the achievement of corporate and department goals and objectives
- Perform other related duties as required to achieve company and department goals and objectives
Experience & Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
- Minimum of two years’ experience in the insurance and/or reinsurance industry preferred
