Position Summary

The Regulatory Compliance Paralegal in the Legal Department will provide first line responsibility for various (re)insurance and corporate regulatory and compliance matters such as company registrations, licenses, authority filings and regulatory response.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain insurance and reinsurance company licenses, surplus lines and accredited reinsurer authorities, corporate registrations and related authorities in various states, including processing renewals and liaising with state, federal and international regulators
  • Preparation and submission of regulatory filings, which include annual/quarterly statements, supplemental statements/exhibits, data calls and regular monthly compliance reporting with insurance departments and bureaus.
  • Process & file various state insurance department, bureau & association assessments and invoices.
  • Review state filing checklists to fulfill annual and quarterly filing requirements for both (re)insurance insurers and surplus lines insurers within the 50 states.
  • Manage and process various statutory state security deposits through the U.S.
  • Monitor state bulletins to ensure full compliance with new filing requirements and deadlines.
  • File unclaimed property reports and manage unclaimed property issues.
  • Draft NAIC biographical affidavits for new senior level officers.
  • Review, process and respond to various litigation documents including Subpoenas.
  • Assist with insurance department consumer complaints.
  • Collaborate with Accounting & Finance teams to gather necessary information for required state compliance filings.
  • Monitor and research applicable insurance and corporate laws and regulations to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with other special project work as assigned by other Legal Department team members.
  • Overtime hours will be required with some weekend work during critical filing periods.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of electronic compliance programs (i.e. Sircon, Optins, SERFF, Wings, etc.)
  • Ability to multitask prioritize and manage high volume of regulatory deadlines
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently and have good problem solving skills
  • Ability to work overtime during heavy filing periods
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Legal research skills preferredRequired Education/Experience

Required Education/Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a paralegal, regulatory compliance preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Connecticut and/or New York Notary Public or commitment to obtain upon employment
