Corporate Sr. Accountant (Financial Reporting), Stamford, CT
Report To: AVP Corporate Accounting Manager
Position Summary
The Corporate Senior Accountant will work with the team responsible for preparing U.S. GAAP and
insurance statutory (“U.S. STAT”) financial statements and reports, as well as prepare
corporate accounting journal entries and execute internal controls over financial reporting.
Essential Duties
- Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual U.S. GAAP based financial package.
- Assist in the preparation, compiling and oversees the filing of the U.S. STAT Quarterly and Annual Statements along with statutory financial filings with NAIC
- Assist with the review of all Company presentations and reports containing financial information.
- Partner closely with various internal and external functions to assist in preparation and review of financial information and/or statements
- Execute various internal control procedures over financial reporting.
- Assist in research and prepare white papers on accounting for various topics under U.S. GAAP and U.S. STAT accounting practices.
- Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the Company and department.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of and experience with U.S. GAAP standards is required, US STAT is preferred
- Knowledge and experience in consolidations is preferred
- A good understanding of insurance accounting and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure that the data collected and reported represents the circumstances and events being portrayed, is preferred.
- Strong PC skills, especially Excel.
- Experience with SAP general ledger and Wings insurance statutory reporting software preferred.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Can work with the top levels of executive management on presentations and results analysis.
Experience & Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university in accounting
- Minimum of three (3+) years of accounting experience in the financial compilation and reporting role is required; insurance and / or reinsurance industry is a plus
- Big 4 or top national public accounting experience is preferred
