Duties: Develop, enhance and generate financial reports based on the insurance accounting requirements in International Financial Reporting Standards, IFRS 17, including quarterly and annual results analyses, quarterly and financial reporting, regulatory reporting processes and the related controls over processes to prepare such. Lead the evolution of recently adopted IFRS 17, which involves testing external models purchased as well as the development or enhancement of internal models related to IFRS 17. Work with both actuarial and accounting staff to ensure compliance with IFRS 17 requirements and that proper methodologies are observed. Obtain, update, and verify data for quarterly and annual reporting and implement adjustments, where needed, as approved by the Chief Reserving Actuary or Corporate Financial Reporting Controller. Prepare or assist with analyses from various company databases to support underlying parameters used in the IFRS 17 process, such as risk adjustment, expense allocation and claim payout patterns. Provide a comprehensive and summarized explanation of the quarterly and annual insurance results reported under IFRS 17. Support the completion and release of IFRS 17 reports and filings, i.e. quarterly and annual statements, for both consolidated reporting and for local reporting, where required. Ensure that applicable internal controls are developed and complied with. Supervisory role. Telecommuting permitted within commuting distance. 15-20% domestic or international travel required to Odyssey branches. Destination & frequency impossible to predict.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting or a closely related field, and five (5) years of experience as an Accountant, Actuary or related position. Experience must include: Working with actuarial reserving techniques in completing loss reserving assignments; Working with accounting principles related to US GAAP and IFRS with emphasis on IFRS 17; Utilizing SQL and R languages to mine data; Reinsurance accounting; and Working in a SOX controlled environment.
